Choose a plan and pay on the product page (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or crypto). 2. The eSIM QR code arrives by email; install it before you travel (Settings > Mobile/Cellular > Add eSIM). 3. On arrival, select the eSIM for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it. Your own SIM stays in the phone for calls and SMS. Data-only: the eSIM has no phone number. Requires an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked phone. ## One eSIM for Athens and every Greek island A single plan covers mainland Greece and the islands - Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes, Corfu - so you do not need a new eSIM for each hop. Install it before you travel, turn off airplane mode on arrival, and you are connected for the whole island-hopping trip. ## Getting online at Athens and the island airports The eSIM connects when you switch off airplane mode at Athens (ATH) or island airports like Santorini (JTR), Mykonos (JMK) and Heraklion (HER). Your ferry booking, transfer and maps are ready before you leave the terminal. ## Coverage on the islands and the ferries Greece's networks (Cosmote, Vodafone and Nova) cover the mainland and the inhabited islands with good 4G and 5G in the busier spots. You will usually keep signal on the ferry near the coast and between closer islands, though it can drop mid-crossing on the open Aegean - normal for any network at sea. ## Greece from the UK: no fingerprints, and 999 still works Greece follows the Schengen rules, but with one welcome difference: the Greek authorities have said they will not collect fingerprints and photos from UK travellers as part of the EU's Entry/Exit System. Two phone tips from the Foreign Office: calling 999 from a UK mobile in Greece transfers you to the Greek emergency services, and you should make sure your phone allows emergency alerts - important in wildfire season. Your GHIC covers state healthcare, and if you plan to hire a moped, note that the UK's category P licence is not valid in Greece (gov.uk, updated 11 August 2026). TUI flies to Greece from more than 20 UK airports, three to four hours from Gatwick, and British Airways flies from Heathrow to Athens, Corfu, Heraklion, Chania, Santorini and Mykonos.
