## How it works

1. Choose a plan and pay on the product page (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or crypto).
2. The eSIM QR code arrives by email; install it before you travel (Settings > Mobile/Cellular > Add eSIM).
3. On arrival, select the eSIM for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it. Your own SIM stays in the phone for calls and SMS.

Data-only: the eSIM has no phone number. Requires an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked phone.

## Safari or family: a Kenya eSIM from the UK

One plan covers the whole country, so the safari transfer, the family visit and a week on the coast all run on the same eSIM - coverage thins in remote parks, so save offline maps for game drives. Install it before you fly; it is data only, so your UK number stays reachable for bank codes.

British Airways flies from Heathrow to Nairobi in about eight and a half hours, and Kenya Airways flies from Heathrow and non-stop from Gatwick. Kenya is three hours ahead of the UK in winter and two in British Summer Time. The sockets are the UK's type G, so no adaptor is needed.

## The Kenya eTA: apply two weeks ahead

British passport holders must apply online for an electronic travel authorisation before travelling, and Kenya recommends doing it at least two weeks before you leave. On the official etakenya.go.ke site it starts at 30 US dollars, with normal processing of up to three working days, or 100 dollars more for immediate processing. Your passport needs six months' validity and two blank pages. Drones need approval from the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority to bring in (gov.uk, updated 7 October 2026).

On a UK plan, EE charges £8 a day (£40 a week), O2 Travel £7 a day, Vodafone £8 a day unless your plan includes it, and Three £7 or £8.
