Each Checkout link opens payment with that plan selected: only the email address and payment remain.

## How it works

1. Choose a plan and pay on the product page (card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal or crypto).
2. The eSIM QR code arrives by email; install it before you travel (Settings > Mobile/Cellular > Add eSIM).
3. On arrival, select the eSIM for mobile data and turn on data roaming for it. Your own SIM stays in the phone for calls and SMS.

Data-only: the eSIM has no phone number. Requires an eSIM-compatible, carrier-unlocked phone.

## Maxis or CelcomDigi, Malaysia's two largest networks

This eSIM runs on Maxis or CelcomDigi - the company formed when Celcom and Digi merged in 2022 (your phone may still show "Celcom" or "Digi" in its network list). It does not use U Mobile or Unifi. Both of its networks use DNB, the national wholesale 5G network, so 5G may be available where there is coverage and your phone supports it; plan on 4G.

## Cities, Borneo and the islands

Coverage is strongest in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Johor Bahru and the other cities and main towns. In the interior of Sabah and Sarawak, and on highland trails, it can be weak or absent.

On the smaller islands, one resort can have good signal and the next none, so screenshot your ferry and hotel confirmations before you leave the mainland. If you are thinking of the islands and dive sites off eastern Sabah, check travel advice first: the UK advises against all but essential travel there.

## Grab, banks and SMS codes

No Malaysian number comes with this eSIM, so it cannot receive the code Grab or a banking app may text you when you sign up or log in on a new phone. Register for Grab before you fly, or keep your home SIM switched on for texts while the eSIM handles data.

## Malaysia only - not Singapore

The plans cover Malaysia only, so a trip on to Singapore needs a separate Singapore eSIM. Near the Causeway in Johor Bahru your phone may also pick up a Singaporean network, where this eSIM does not work: if data stops near the border, set the network to Maxis or CelcomDigi yourself instead of leaving it on automatic.

## Flying to Malaysia from the UK

Malaysia Airlines flies non-stop from Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur every day, in around 13 and a half to 14 hours. Penang and Langkawi have no direct flight from the UK, so you connect, usually in Kuala Lumpur. Malaysia is eight hours ahead of the UK in winter and seven in British Summer Time; it does not change its clocks.

## Before you go: the arrival card

British passport holders do not need a visa for a holiday and are normally allowed to stay 90 days. You do need to submit Malaysia's Digital Arrival Card online before you travel - the Foreign Office notes that airlines may ask for it at check-in. Your passport must be valid for six months after you arrive, undamaged and with no pages missing. This is gov.uk's guidance as updated on 19 March 2026.

## Your UK plug just works

Malaysia uses the same three-pin sockets as the UK (type G, 230 V), so your chargers work without an adaptor. Money is the ringgit; the Foreign Office warns that card and ATM fraud is widespread, so use machines inside banks or shopping centres and keep an eye on your card at payment.

## FAQ

### Does it work in Sabah and Sarawak?

In Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and the main towns, usually. In the interior, along rivers and in national parks, coverage is limited, so plan for time offline.

### Will I get 5G in Malaysia?

Possibly, in the cities: both networks are on the national 5G network. A roaming eSIM is not guaranteed 5G, though, so count on 4G.

### Do I need an adaptor in Malaysia?

No. Malaysia uses the same three-pin type G sockets as the UK.

### What is the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card?

An online arrival form you must submit before you travel to Malaysia; airlines may check it at check-in. British passport holders otherwise need no visa for a holiday of up to 90 days (gov.uk, updated 19 March 2026).
