EE Roaming Charges 2026: Europe, USA, Turkey and Every Zone

Most EE pay monthly customers pay £2.72 a day to use their plan in Europe. Customers who joined before 7 July 2021, and anyone on Essentials Plus, All Rounder, Full Works or Full Works Plus, pay nothing in Europe. Outside Europe there is no free option: the USA, Turkey, Dubai and Thailand cost £6 a day, Egypt and Morocco £8 a day, and Japan £8 a day for 500MB of data. Those are the prices in EE's own price guide for charges from 7 October 2026. Below is every zone, what each pass includes, and when a travel eSIM costs less.

Prices checked on 8 October 2026 against EE's pay monthly price guide (charges from 7 October 2026), its plan terms from 20 August 2026 and its pay as you go guide from 3 June 2026. EE raises out-of-bundle charges by 5% every 31 March, so check before you travel.

EE roaming in Europe

EE calls it the Europe Roaming Zone: 47 destinations, covering the EU plus Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, San Marino, Vatican City, Gibraltar, Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man, the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands and the French overseas departments.

Three places UK travellers often assume are included are not: Turkey, Andorra, and Northern Cyprus when your phone connects to a Turkish network there. They are charged as Rest of the World.

What you pay in Europe depends on when you joined and which plan you are on:

Your EE planEurope roaming
Handset or SIM plan that started before 7 July 2021Included, no daily charge
Tablet or mobile broadband plan that started before 18 August 2021Included, no daily charge
Essentials Plus, All Rounder, Full Works, Full Works PlusIncluded, no daily charge
Any other pay monthly plan£2.72 a day, charged per UK calendar day you use it
Pay as you goDaily add-on £2.50, or 7-day add-on £10. No data without an add-on

The daily charge covers midnight to midnight UK time, not local time. A day you land at 11pm in Spain and use data counts as a full day.

Two things change the maths on a longer trip:

  • EU Roaming Passes. A Weekly EU Roaming Pass is £16.50, and a 15-day EU Pass is £30. A week on the daily charge is £19.04, so the weekly pass saves £2.54. Fifteen days on the daily charge is £40.80 against £30 for the pass.
  • Fair use. If your UK plan has more than 50GB of data, you can use up to 50GB in the Europe zone each month. EE also expects you to spend at least two months of any four in the UK.

The Republic of Ireland is treated separately. Calls, texts and data there come out of your normal allowance with no daily charge.

EE roaming outside Europe

Outside Europe, EE splits the world into four Rest of the World zones. You cannot use data in any of them without buying a pass. The pass lets you use your UK plan allowance for the period you buy.

ZonePopular destinations24 hours7 days15 days
Zone 1USA, Turkey, UAE (Dubai), Thailand£6£30£50
Zone 2Egypt, Morocco£8£40£60
Zone 3Japan£8 (unlimited minutes and texts, 500MB data)--
Zone 4EE's highest-cost destinations£16 (10MB data)--

Zones 1 and 2 give you your UK allowance for the pass period. Japan is the exception: Zone 3 sells only a 24-hour pass, and it comes with a fixed 500MB, not your UK allowance.

Full Works plans include Rest of the World Zone 1, so Full Works customers can use their plan in the USA, Turkey, Dubai and Thailand with no pass.

Without a pass, calls outside Europe cost £2.46 a minute, both making and receiving. Texts cost 98p.

Pay as you go outside Europe

EE pay as you go customers buy data add-ons by the megabyte instead. A 7-day add-on is £26.12 for 300MB in the USA, Turkey, Thailand or Japan. In Dubai the same £26.12 buys 100MB, and in Egypt or Morocco 45MB. These are small amounts: maps and messaging alone can use 300MB in a couple of days.

Is a travel eSIM cheaper than EE roaming?

It depends on where you are going and which plan you have. Here is an honest summary:

  • Europe, on a plan that includes it: keep using EE. You pay nothing extra, and a travel eSIM would only cost you money.
  • Europe, on the £2.72 daily charge: for a week, the EE weekly pass at £16.50 is fair value if you need lots of data. A Europe eSIM from £2.59 costs less if a few gigabytes is enough.
  • USA, Turkey or Dubai: a week on EE is £30, and a fortnight £50. A data eSIM for the £2.59 USA, £1.76 Turkey or £2.91 UAE usually costs less. Your EE number keeps working for calls and texts.
  • Japan: EE gives you 500MB a day for £8, so a week costs £56 for at most 3.5GB. A Japan eSIM from £1.75 is much cheaper for any normal trip.

Using a travel eSIM with your EE number

EE supports eSIM, and its own help pages note that one phone can hold more than one line. That means you can add a data-only travel eSIM next to your EE line:

  1. Install the travel eSIM at home, over Wi-Fi, before you fly.
  2. When you land, set the travel eSIM as your mobile data line.
  3. Turn data roaming off on your EE line. Your EE number still receives calls and texts, including bank codes, but no data roaming charges can start.

Phones sold to UK consumers since December 2021 come unlocked, because Ofcom banned the sale of locked handsets from then. If you have an older EE phone that is still locked, EE unlocks it free of charge.

Spend caps and surprise bills

There is no longer a legal limit on what roaming can cost you. The old £45 default cap on data roaming came from EU rules that lapsed in the UK in June 2022, and Ofcom confirmed in 2024 that networks no longer have to apply it. What Ofcom does require, since 1 October 2024, is a free message when your phone connects to a network abroad, telling you the charges and how to limit your spending.

EE's own spend cap is the control to use. Buying a pass doesn't count towards it, and if you set the cap to £0, you won't be able to roam at all.

Frequently asked questions

How much does EE charge per day in Europe?

£2.72 a day for pay monthly plans that started from 7 July 2021, unless your plan is Essentials Plus, All Rounder, Full Works or Full Works Plus, which include Europe roaming. Plans that started before 7 July 2021 roam in Europe at no extra cost.

Is Turkey in EE's Europe zone?

No. EE lists Turkey, Andorra and Northern Cyprus on a Turkish network as outside its Europe Roaming Zone. Turkey is Rest of the World Zone 1: £6 for 24 hours, £30 for 7 days or £50 for 15 days.

Can I use EE data in the USA without a pass?

No. EE says you need to buy a pass to use data outside the EU, EEA and Switzerland. The USA is Zone 1: £6 for 24 hours or £30 for 7 days. Full Works plans include Zone 1.

Does EE charge for roaming in Ireland?

No. Calls, texts and data in the Republic of Ireland come out of your normal allowance, with no daily charge.

Does EE still sell the Roam Abroad Pass?

Not as a standalone add-on. EE's current price guide lists it only as one of the Inclusive Extras on Full Works plans. Websites quoting a monthly Roam Abroad Pass price are out of date.

Going outside Europe with EE?

A data eSIM installs at home in minutes and keeps your EE number live for calls and texts.
