Andorra eSIM FAQ for UK Travellers

Do I get a phone number with the eSIM?
No. Our eSIMs are data-only, so they do not come with a phone number. You use them for internet access — maps, WhatsApp, email, social media, streaming and any other app. Your existing SIM keeps your own phone number active.
Can I make or receive calls and text messages (SMS)?
Not standard calls or SMS — the eSIM provides mobile data only. You can call and message as much as you like through internet apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, Signal or Messenger, which run on the eSIM's data. Standard calls and SMS keep working on your usual number through your home operator, as long as you keep that SIM active.
How much data do I need in Andorra?
It depends on the plan you choose. Across nearly 3,000 of our customers' finished eSIMs, the typical one used half to two-thirds of its plan, and on the smaller plans (1-5 GB) about one in three used all of it. Maps and messaging use little; video, video calls and sharing your connection use the most. If in doubt, take the next size up. If you do run out, you can buy another eSIM at any time - you will need WiFi to install it.
What network speeds will I get in Andorra?
Your Andorra eSIM uses a local mobile network: 4G, and 5G where the network offers it. Speed depends on coverage and your location.
Can I share data with my laptop or tablet?
Yes, but only for Data Plans with a fixed data allowance. Unlimited plans do not support hotspot or tethering.
When should I install my Andorra eSIM?
Install your eSIM while you still have WiFi at home - it is safe to do so days in advance for either plan type. Per-GB plans only start when the eSIM first connects to a network in Andorra. Unlimited plans run on the travel dates you select at checkout, with the days counting from your chosen start date whether the eSIM is installed or not - so make sure it is on your phone by that date.

Setting up your eSIM? The installation and activation guide walks through it step by step, and the full FAQ covers device compatibility, hotspot, dual SIM and topping up.

Your eSIM for Andorra - not covered by EU plans

Andorra sits between France and Spain but is outside both the EU and the EEA, so EU roaming does not apply and an EU eSIM generally will not work there. A dedicated Andorra eSIM is the way to stay connected on the slopes and in the duty-free shops. Set it up before you arrive - there is no airport, so most people drive in from Barcelona or Toulouse already needing data.

Getting connected on arrival

Because you reach Andorra by road, having the eSIM live as you cross the border means maps and traffic work for the mountain drive in, and you are ready for your hotel or resort the moment you arrive.

Coverage in the resorts and the valleys

Andorra is served by the national operator (Andorra Telecom / Mobiland) with good coverage across Andorra la Vella, the Grandvalira and Vallnord ski areas and the main valley roads. High off-piste terrain can drop out, so download offline maps and trail info for backcountry days.

What each UK network charges in Andorra

Andorra sits between France and Spain but outside the EU, and it is outside the Europe zone of all four big UK networks - so a ski week in Soldeu or Pas de la Casa is charged as worldwide roaming. EE charges £8 a day (£40 a week), Vodafone £8 a day, Three £7 or £8 depending on when you joined, and O2 has no daily pass there at all: its bolt-ons start at £26 for 100MB. If your phone jumps to an Andorran network on the road up from Spain or France, those charges start.

Getting there from the UK

There is no flying straight in: you travel through France or Spain, usually by flying to Barcelona (just over two hours from Heathrow) or Toulouse, then the road up into the Pyrenees. Andorra needs no visa, but you must meet the Schengen rules to enter France or Spain, so the 90-days-in-180 and passport-validity rules still apply. Hotels register their guests with the police, and on the way back into France or Spain you may pay duty on tobacco, alcohol and luxury goods, because Andorra is not in the EU (gov.uk, updated 10 December 2025). Andorra is one hour ahead of the UK.

Good to know before you go

Will my EU eSIM work in Andorra?+

Generally no - Andorra is outside the EU and the EEA, so EU roaming and most EU eSIMs do not cover it. You need a dedicated Andorra eSIM.

Is coverage good in the ski resorts?+

Yes - Grandvalira, Vallnord and the main resort areas are well covered. High off-piste and backcountry terrain can drop signal, so save offline maps.

Does EU roaming work in Andorra on a UK plan?+

No. Andorra is outside the Europe zone of EE, O2, Vodafone and Three, so it is charged as worldwide roaming - around £7 to £8 a day, and O2 offers only bolt-ons from £26 for 100MB (checked 9 October 2026).
