Curaçao eSIM FAQ for UK Travellers

Do I get a phone number with the eSIM?
No. Our eSIMs are data-only, so they do not come with a phone number. You use them for internet access — maps, WhatsApp, email, social media, streaming and any other app. Your existing SIM keeps your own phone number active.
Can I make or receive calls and text messages (SMS)?
Not standard calls or SMS — the eSIM provides mobile data only. You can call and message as much as you like through internet apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, Signal or Messenger, which run on the eSIM's data. Standard calls and SMS keep working on your usual number through your home operator, as long as you keep that SIM active.
How much data do I need in Curaçao?
It depends on the plan you choose. Across nearly 3,000 of our customers' finished eSIMs, the typical one used half to two-thirds of its plan, and on the smaller plans (1-5 GB) about one in three used all of it. Maps and messaging use little; video, video calls and sharing your connection use the most. If in doubt, take the next size up. If you do run out, you can buy another eSIM at any time - you will need WiFi to install it.
What network speeds will I get in Curaçao?
Your Curaçao eSIM uses a local mobile network: 4G, and 5G where the network offers it. Speed depends on coverage and your location.
Can I share data with my laptop or tablet?
Yes, but only for Data Plans with a fixed data allowance. Unlimited plans do not support hotspot or tethering.
When should I install my Curaçao eSIM?
Install your eSIM while you still have WiFi at home - it is safe to do so days in advance for either plan type. Per-GB plans only start when the eSIM first connects to a network in Curaçao. Unlimited plans run on the travel dates you select at checkout, with the days counting from your chosen start date whether the eSIM is installed or not - so make sure it is on your phone by that date.

Setting up your eSIM? The installation and activation guide walks through it step by step, and the full FAQ covers device compatibility, hotspot, dual SIM and topping up.

Skip Airport WiFi in Curaçao - Land with Data Sorted

CURHato International AirportWillemstad

A Curaçao eSIM for travellers from the UK

There is no non-stop flight from the UK, so you connect on the way - install the eSIM before you leave and it connects when you land in Willemstad. It is data only, so your UK number stays reachable for bank texts.

Curaçao is dear on a UK plan: EE sells only a 24-hour pass at £8 with 500MB of data, Vodafone charges £8 a day and notes 4G is not available there, Three £7 a day, and O2 does not name Curaçao at all - it lists the former Netherlands Antilles under O2 Travel at £7 a day, so check with O2 before relying on it.

Entry: the DI card, and your GHIC does not count

British passport holders can stay up to 90 days in a calendar year without a visa, on a passport valid for the whole stay. Everyone must complete Curaçao's Digital Immigration Card before arriving - the official portal opens it within seven days before departure, and gov.uk says to do it at least 48 hours before you land - including if you are only passing through. And one thing British travellers often assume wrongly: your GHIC or EHIC is not valid in Curaçao, so take out travel insurance with medical cover (gov.uk, updated 10 December 2025).

Curaçao is four hours behind the UK in winter and five in British Summer Time. Sockets are flat-pin types A and B at 127 volts - bring an adaptor and check your chargers.

Good to know before you go

Is my GHIC valid in Curaçao?+

No. The Foreign Office says the GHIC and EHIC are not valid in Curaçao, so you need travel insurance with medical cover (gov.uk, updated 10 December 2025).
