Morocco eSIM FAQ for UK Travellers

Do I get a phone number with the eSIM?
No. Our eSIMs are data-only, so they do not come with a phone number. You use them for internet access — maps, WhatsApp, email, social media, streaming and any other app. Your existing SIM keeps your own phone number active.
Can I make or receive calls and text messages (SMS)?
Not standard calls or SMS — the eSIM provides mobile data only. You can call and message as much as you like through internet apps such as WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, Signal or Messenger, which run on the eSIM's data. Standard calls and SMS keep working on your usual number through your home operator, as long as you keep that SIM active.
How much data do I need in Morocco?
It depends on the plan you choose. Across nearly 3,000 of our customers' finished eSIMs, the typical one used half to two-thirds of its plan, and on the smaller plans (1-5 GB) about one in three used all of it. Maps and messaging use little; video, video calls and sharing your connection use the most. If in doubt, take the next size up. If you do run out, you can buy another eSIM at any time - you will need WiFi to install it.
What network speeds will I get in Morocco?
Your Morocco eSIM uses a local mobile network: 4G, and 5G where the network offers it. Speed depends on coverage and your location.
Can I share data with my laptop or tablet?
Yes, but only for Data Plans with a fixed data allowance. Unlimited plans do not support hotspot or tethering.
When should I install my Morocco eSIM?
Install your eSIM while you still have WiFi at home - it is safe to do so days in advance for either plan type. Per-GB plans only start when the eSIM first connects to a network in Morocco. Unlimited plans run on the travel dates you select at checkout, with the days counting from your chosen start date whether the eSIM is installed or not - so make sure it is on your phone by that date.

Setting up your eSIM? The installation and activation guide walks through it step by step, and the full FAQ covers device compatibility, hotspot, dual SIM and topping up.

Skip Airport WiFi in Morocco - Land with Data Sorted

A Morocco eSIM for travellers from the UK

One plan covers the whole country - Marrakech, Agadir, Fez, Essaouira and the Atlas - on Morocco's own networks. Install it at home while you are on WiFi, switch off airplane mode when you land, and your transfer, maps and messages work before you reach passport control. It is data only: you keep your UK number for calls and texts, and WhatsApp works as usual.

Morocco is outside every UK network's Europe zone, and on some plans it sits in the most expensive band of all, so using your UK allowance there is costly. The table below shows what each network charges.

Getting there from the UK

Agadir is three and a half to four hours from the UK and one of the best-served winter-sun airports: Jet2 flies there from ten UK airports including Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds Bradford, Glasgow and Newcastle; easyJet from Gatwick, Luton, Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh and Glasgow; Ryanair from Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Leeds Bradford; and TUI from Gatwick and Manchester.

What a British passport needs for Morocco

No visa for a holiday of up to 90 days. Your passport must be valid for at least three months after the day you arrive and be undamaged. Check that the border officer stamps it when you arrive - the Foreign Office says they should, so ask if they do not.

This is gov.uk's guidance as updated on 19 August 2026; read the current version before you travel.

Morocco is now on UK time in winter

On 20 September 2026 Morocco returned to GMT permanently and stopped changing its clocks, including the old switch during Ramadan. So from late October to late March it is on exactly the same time as the UK, and in British Summer Time it is one hour behind. Guides written before September 2026 still say GMT+1, so check your transfer and tour times against Moroccan time.

Plugs and money

Sockets are the European two-pin kind (types C and E), so you need a UK-to-Europe adaptor. The dirham is a closed currency: you generally cannot buy it at home, so plan to use a cash machine or exchange office on arrival. Cards work in hotels and bigger restaurants, but souks and taxis are cash territory, and the Foreign Office warns that card fraud is common - use machines inside banks where you can.

Good to know before you go

Is Morocco on the same time as the UK?+

In winter, yes. Morocco has been on GMT all year since 20 September 2026, so it matches the UK from late October to late March and is one hour behind during British Summer Time.

Do I need a visa for Morocco with a British passport?+

Not for a holiday of up to 90 days. Your passport needs at least three months' validity from the day you arrive - gov.uk, updated 19 August 2026.

Does my UK phone plan include Morocco?+

No. Morocco is outside the Europe zone of EE, O2, Vodafone and Three, so it is charged as worldwide roaming. A Morocco eSIM gives you data at a fixed price you pay once.
