Your eSIM for Italy, from Rome to the Amalfi Coast
One plan covers the whole country, so the same eSIM works whether you are in Rome, Florence, Venice or down on the Amalfi Coast. Install it before you travel, turn off airplane mode when you land, and you are online with no SIM to swap.
Getting online at Fiumicino, Malpensa and Venice
The eSIM connects automatically when you switch off airplane mode at Rome Fiumicino (FCO), Milan Malpensa (MXP), Venice (VCE) or Naples (NAP). You can buy your Leonardo Express ticket, find your water-bus stop or order a taxi the moment you arrive.
Coverage in the cities and the countryside
Italy's networks - TIM, Vodafone and WindTre - deliver 5G across the cities and reliable 4G through the regions, including the Tuscan hills, the Amalfi and Cinque Terre coastlines and the lakes. Signal naturally thins in the high Dolomites and remote mountain valleys, so save offline maps for hiking days.
Frecciarossa trains and island trips
The same eSIM keeps you online on the Frecciarossa and Italo high-speed trains between Rome, Florence, Milan and Naples, and it works on Sicily and Sardinia too - so an island leg of the trip needs no new plan. Expect brief drops in the long rail tunnels, with automatic reconnection after.
Italy from the UK: what is different since Brexit
No visa, but Italy is Schengen: your 90 days in any 180 are shared with every other Schengen country, and your passport must have been issued less than ten years before you arrive and be valid for three months after you leave. Since April 2026 the EU's Entry/Exit System takes your fingerprints and photo on first entry instead of a stamp - free, and valid three years. Your GHIC or EHIC covers state healthcare, and 112 reaches the emergency services (gov.uk, updated 2 October 2026).
British Airways and ITA Airways fly from Heathrow to Rome in about two and a half hours, and British Airways to both Milan airports in around two. Italy is always one hour ahead of the UK. Sockets are types C, L and F, so bring a European adaptor.
